This could make the topic way more interesting. http://www.astroengine.com/?p=596

Having just covered this story on the Universe Today, I can’t help but be intrigued. Apparently, an undisclosed Phoenix scientist has been in communication with Aviation Week concerning a “compelling” discovery on the Red Planet. What could this news be? Obviously it’s something important as NASA and the University of Arizona are going to great lengths to keep the details out of the public domain. Plus, Phoenix scientists have presented their preliminary findings to the Bush Administration’s Presidential Science Advisor. The report suggests that there has been an even more significant discovery from the robotic explorer, not only from the Thermal and Evolved Gas Analyzer (or “TEGA,” the instrument used to bake Martian samples) which confirmed the presence of water, but from the Microscopy, Electrochemistry, and Conductivity Analyzer (MECA) instrument. MECA has apparently found even more evidence for the “potential for life” on Mars. But this “ evidence” will be the biggest discovery yet.

Speaking of "tasting"... I wonder what it tastes like? Given all the iron in the soil, probably not very good.

If someone was bringing ice back from Mars, and you were offered the first free taste -- would you try it? So far there's no evidence of (still-living) life on Mars, so it should be sterile and you should be safe... right?

Why are we wasting all that money on faraway planets when we could give it to people here on Earth who don't feel like working?

Now I must work on my plants to spew carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, or should I choose oxygen/nitrogen? Carbon dioxide would warm the planet quickly, and then we could start to build contained facilities on the planet, and then we could have sex on mars. Then we could eat candy on mars, and then we could watch TV on mars, and then we could shoot a foreigner on mars, etc!

JPL is the last NASA site doing real science. The rest are just doing PR, begging for dollars so they can show kids adults eating in space.

Am I the only one who noticed Michael Jackson's lot there? Always knew the guy was sort of out of this world.
