I'd be more excited if one of the parts wasn't labeled "ACME."

Wile E. Coyote never learned his lesson.

I will be more prudent.

Intel has pushed this on and off for at least two years, back when it was called the "Interchangeability Initiative." The trouble is that standardized parts aren't optimized for size/weight or style. You end up with a lot of similar, clunky-looking boxes... and the assembled set of parts may not be much cheaper than buying a budget OEM laptop with similar specs (there's more room for savings at the high end, where OEMs make more profit). It does make DIY repairs more feasible (and cheaper, considering what some OEMs charge for replacement parts) and there are a few customization options you wouldn't get from a box vendor (black keyboard in a white case, say). But as with MXM modules, it's easy to get your hopes up too high.

Pretty cool. I've always been a fan of Antec cases since the Sonata. My most recent computers were built with P180s which is nothing short of amazing. Very interested to see what they can do in the laptop market.

The docking station is butt-ugly, and I don't really care for the keyboard layout. It's better than most of the mini one's, but doesn't hold a candle to my current one:

Great. More Antec crap built like elementary school children put it together.

A newsworthy development. Does this mean we'll be able to build laptops soon just like we do desktop systems now, or is this just OEM hype? If the former, I'd like to see TR's take on the new platforms in a review soon.

How did I miss intel making an interchangeable laptop part specification until now?
It's too bad that it starts at 14.1" displays, but understandable given the issues trying to shrink the keyboard down would cause,

This is an interesting idea that I've been wondering if would ever be done for some years. Hopefully VIA can and will release mainboards that are Common Building Block compatible; that could really push intel to gets their act together on Atom's mobile offerings.
