What's happened here is that the usual batch of highly addictive, psycho-active drugs Apple has infused into its plastic cases has turned rancid in a few batches of recently shipped product. As a result it is now possible to actually smell these chemicals as they assault the brain and nervous systems of Macolytes around the world. Normally, the scents of these powerful chemicals are masked by certain colognes and aphrodisiacs and go completely undetected. Apple has made no secret of how much money it has invested in its "plastics"--and now we know why, don't we?

Think I'm kidding? Think again. At least one person who reports that the odor is "intense, nauseating, and makes you feel funny," is still using his Mac, isn't he? He can't stop--the chemical drives his brain and nervous system to ecstatic heights of both hallucination and frenzy! Despite an odor that must truly be horrific and would not otherwise be tolerated by humans with normal olfactory capacities--he's compelled and he's still using his stinkin' Mac! My guess is he'd rather die than switch--and if that isn't addiction I don't know what it is.

When we ponder how it is that Mac users generally seem so insensate and turned off to what they refer to as the "drab" experience of a PC--well, that's easy to understand, eh? When using a PC these chemicals are not ravaging their souls and driving them to heights of orgasmic pleasure--and so of course the experience would seem drab by comparison. I would imagine that many addicted Mac users would rather inhale the usually fragrant fumes of a Mac than have sex--it makes me shudder just thinking about it. Brrrr-r-r-r--r...!

The point is, benzene is a known carcinogen.

Not only that, benzene shouldn't be made by anything in the computer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzene#Production

Unless you have melting PVC, but I don't know.

Ozone is completely reasonable for a computer to emit. Hell, printers emit it. But for a computer to start synthesizing organics?

NO.

The problem isn't Apple, it's whoever made the plastics (most likely the motherboard?). If these are just "off the shelf components" like so many Windows fanboys claim, then this problem most likely affects a whole bunch of other computers.

Unfortunately, pluscard might be right - if the motherboard is made by Intel, it's most likely their fault.

Cyril, your anti-Apple bias is showing. Pull up your pants.

Gasses: 2 esses.

And saying Macs causing cancer is like saying tumors cause cancer. They ARE the cancer.

Think about it: Jobs is just as evil as Ballmer (or at least he tries to be, and would be if he was as powerful and influential). But when was the last time Jobs entertained us with a monkey dance? Never! Therefore he is strictly more vile than Ballmer, who is already a plague on the world. Though not quite as bad as the US congress.

Wow, it looks like the anti-mac and "OMFG it really has deadly chemicals!" boys are raving.

Guess what? A lot of stuff you buy and consume these days contain chemical that are bad for your health. It is not as bad as it used to be in some areas. The reason why deadly chemicals are being used is simply because they are "cheaper" *hint* china *hint* to use or a necessity.

If you want something more benign. You got to pay up or sacrifice something. (example, inferior soldering materials)

It is easier to pull this sensational non-sense on a high-profile target. It is even better when you spin around the facts to make said target less favorable. For the final finish, you completely ignore the scope of the problem and how it may affect a far greater amount of electronics.

In other words, we have been professionally trolled.

Geez, more anti-mac FUD.

Guess what? All electronics generate traces amounts of harmful by-products when they are operated (Ozone anybody?). Never mind that fact that producing the said electronics generate a bunch of fun chemicals. The chemicals are a PITA to be properly dispose.

I have also read posts from other users who enjoy the smell, and one user said his Canary died after having the Mac Pro for two weeks. (Two weeks I think) He said the vet told him that the bird was poisoned.
Sad Apple...

EDIT: Found the quote...

"YES! I recently have had a bird die "mysteriously" which was caged near my MacPro which has had the terrible smell for months. The vet said it was likely he inhaled something toxic!!! I was afraid it might be the Mac but didn't know how to prove it and now reading this forum I'm convinced it is what killed my bird."

Seeing that headline and the banner stating "Fold for TR team #2630. Help cure: cancer... Put your PC in the service of mankind." on the same page is just too much. Now there's a whole other level to the PC vs. Mac argument. PCs help cure cancer, Macs help cause it.
