After so many disastrous drivers I'm now sitting with 8.7's installed, I downloaded the installer for 8.9 but I didn't reach the point of patience the whole month to try the damn things and go through ATI-hell yet again, good job there ATI, in making people scared of driver updates by having every 2nd driver release (at the minimum) mess up a system.
I guess that's the price you pay or something for using XP64.

I'm interested in the fan-speed control feature, but only if the "Overdrive" tab allows down-clocking, too. I'm on a fairly old graphics card and am putting together a new system, and looking at the 4670 and 4850 as options for a computer that might occasionally serve as an HTPC. The 4670 doesn't look quite future-proof enough for gaming, but the 4850 may be a little too loud for movie-watching. If I can downclock a 4850 and the fanspeed too while watching movies, that would work. Does Overdrive support easily or automatically switchable clock & fanspeed profiles?

I think I've heard a rumor of a 4830 coming soon, so if it's a decent performer somewhere between 4670 and 4850 and quiet enough, that would be the better choice for the money for me.

Can you have the fan shut off completely if it is under a certain temp?

I rather like amd/ati driver support nowdays. In one of the driver revisions there was a problem with the hot-key feature not deactivating properly. Which i left a support ticket about. Not only had they gotten it into the next release, they also promptly answered the support ticket, etc.

i think the ATI folks must be using some kind of continuous integration/agile development method, if they're able to fire off a driver revision just a few hours after nvidia releases theirs.

For all the back and forth complaints about driver and control panel updates and changes between the two companies no one can argue that AMD has a vastly superior driver update schedule.

I am impressed with ati's drivers recently. They are really getting back in the game.
