I've just purchased the G50vt-x1 from best buys. It's only $1099.99 down from $1249.99, so I purchased the 2 year full warranty with it and a mouse and bag. Got a discount as well from instore best buys. Must have charmed them. or must have been commission day for them.
I must say that this really rocks. Not sure of the Direct Console 2.0 performcae increase but the Power4Gear seems a good idea. Only a bit disappointed with the resolution of 1366, 768 but it looks and feels really good and plays everything maxed out at native resolution.
Also the battery is a bit weak. Would like a another half hour to an hour really.
Crysis at full, I'll have to try it. :-)

I would definitely call the added software that comes with these gaming laptops "bloatware". I am typing this on a Dell XPS 1730M, and I count four applications sitting in my system tray, and I count 83MB of crap sitting on my system, just to handle stuff I don't need like the utterly retarded LCD display.

I have turned off all of the extra flashyness on this laptop as well. I bought it because it had the screen I wanted, a Penryn core 2 duo, and a numberpad, as well as a general all around excellent spec. Not because it had flashy this and flashy that.

Asus' engineers should be commended for the job they've done cooling this machine, potentially preserving the fertility of male users in the process.

LOL!! That was funny!

There's at least a few square centimeters of free space on the wrist rest without stickers. Bruce Dickinson says "I gotta have more stickers!"

"Splendid is easier to use, though, and it offers a series of presents if you don't want to tweak individual values."

Presents!!! Aw man i love Presents!

More than likely a typo. But i sure hope not! :)

Probably one of the nicer middle-end gaming laptops to show up so far, but how is it Asus littered a 15" laptop with LED bling but used a CCFL backlight for the display?

The G50Vt-X1 mentioned in the conclusion is on sale at BB for $1099 for at least this week (Nov9-15). I snagged one myself and I'm really happy with it so far, Oblivion at the native resolution with all the graphic sliders maxed is purdy :P

Aw and now the presents are no more :(

Onto topic though. I bought my Asus laptop about a year ago now i think it was, and i have to admit. I have been pleasantly shocked at how good it has been for how little i payed for it. The screen is a 15.4" and "only" has a 1280x800 resolution, but for what i do that is just fine and i don't mind it one bit. Heck i remember it wasn't that long ago when 1024x768 was the norm. The chassis seems to have been built well and i doesn't seem to flex much / at all. And it runs VERY cool (especially while idle... aka browsing the interwebs / school work), which isn't something some of my past laptops could say. I must admit it was a very nice change of pace. So far it seems like almost every other Asus laptop i have seen is the same. Well built, affordable, and cool running. (I won't attest to earlier Asus designs though, i haven't dealt with them so i suppose i can't speak out eitherway).

My Asus

I ordered a 2GB stick of memory with the laptop as well to bring it to 3GB, so I have no idea how it would have otherwise ran with the stock 1GB since i never even bothered to try.

Which brings me to how i actually very much prefer that monster panel with all the screws on the bottom. Mine is designed much the same where you take out a whole bunch of screws then there is a whole big panel that pops of (like as in half of the bottom of the notebook just detaches), and i have to admit. NEVER have i loved working on a laptop more. Everything is just there! Makes it very easy for blowing the dust / dirt / random hair out of the systems heatsink/fan that inevitably gets picked up.
