Did they restore the missing detail in Far Cry 2 that helped push their benchmark scores forward?

Do the Linux drivers work with with FreeBSD? I'm about to delve into BSD so I'm just wondering.

I am very displeased with the ATI drivers, I gave them the benefit of the doubt getting a 4870.
Oddly enough games seem mostly fine, my issues with the card are the INSANE heat it puts out (seriously, if even this is 'within spec' you're effectively buying a product with a short life span, they can't possibly last at these heats) and 2, the control panel for the drivers itself is buggy as hell. |

AMD says december 10th we'll get catalyst 8.12 with inbuilt stream computing as well as a return of the video transcode app that uses said stream computing to be many factors faster than a CPU can achieve, and supports HD videos.
In short; dec 12th we might get an excuse to try a new driver, xmas presents from AMD! Until that time I'll stick with the somewhat working, not too crippled 8.7's |

Just installed these drivers. I'm happy they added fan speed control, I was having to manually edit profile text files in order to set the fan speed to where my HD4850 wouldn't overheat when gaming...

So... Where is Fallout 3 performance gains?
Most reviews show that Fallout 3 runs poorly relatively speaking on ATI cards, I really don't care to much since I still get around 50 fps with 4x AA and ultra settings on a 4870 but being able to get rid of the few slow downs I notice occasionally would be nice. I guess we have to wait for 8.12 for it. |

Last month I bought a second monitor to go along with my 4850 (Cat 8.10's). Upon installing the monitor, my computer kept hard crashing, with one monitor going black and the other showing these nasty vertical green bars. This is a widely reported problem. The issue was caused from the ram declocking itself down to help save power.
Reverting back to Cat 8.7's fixed the problem, but until ATI fixes this problem, I'll be sad whenever new drivers are released : ( |
