I think we should say what we're thankful for. I'll start :
I'm thankful for the Merom core C2D and all it's wonderful performance and incredible operating temperatures, and normal maps--without which we would be forced to using cripplingly-hi-poly meshes for any decent character model detail. |

Canadian Totally Ordinary Thursday Shortbread!
and the article on hacking the iphone is great. the iphone is a nice product, but i don't like apple as a company because of their lock-in. and nowhere is it more apparent than on the iphone. my samsung can just use any MP3 i upload onto it as a ringtone. quit forcing people to buy crap from you, apple. |

AMD/ATi, and their reintroduction of competition to the graphics card market
Intel and their dedication to producing excellent processors at reasonable prices, despite the fact that there *isn't* anybody to compete with except themselves
Antialiasing, for removing all the unpleasant jaggedness from our lives. And giving us a cool option we can always crank to bring down high end graphics cards, no matter how much times goes by ;)
LVDS, for enabling just about every high-speed interconnect currently in use (Hypertransport, PCI-E, QPI, SATA, etc...)
Multicore CPUs, for improving multitasking and tirelessly extending moore's law
TCP/IP, for scaling far, far beyond its design specifications and providing the backbone upon which the internet operates (and doing a damn fine job of it too, considering how old it is)
And the MOSFET, for making it all possible.
