There is no reason for this card unless you want the best and $$$$ is no object.
4670 and 8500 are too good for so little cash. 4850 and 9800GTX are not that much more and yield even better results. |

ATi calculated correctly that NVidia would over react to the X1900 series and produce a huge chip(G80) giving them a chance to develop something smaller and efficient.Seems Nvidia have taken the bait again with this new card. They certainly won't have liked being runner up to the 4870X2 as fastest card in the market and I expect this new sandwiched 295 part to be a good deal faster as their response. Those preview numbers look pretty fair and show it to be a fast card.
ATi however is rumored to be preparing a refresh RV770 to be released a few days after CES to steal its thunder.I hope that's true :) NVidia need to get their prices down and forget those $600 cards or face the same market backlash as the 200 series did on release. I suspect all the objections to 2 GPUs on a card(s) will magically disappear seeing it's being released by NVidia however.... |

Suddenly, nvidia says this will be the fastest single card out.
I can hear the irony loud and clear. |

Guru 3D has a review up, early. Be wary of it, because there usually is a reason that a certain site is allowed to post a review early, if you know what I mean. But what the results show is that when settings and resolution are maxed out, the 4870x2 is slightly faster, but with lower quality and resolutions the 295 performs slight better.

It certainly LOOKS gorgeous.. 2X + Q9xxx would make a nice folder too I'd wager. So from your blurb, you could have 3 GPUs doing graphics and 1GPU doing PhysX. Thats pretty durn cool too.

The GTX2xx series was never designed to be paired up on the singular card. Even with the die shrink, it'll require a monolithic cooler and power consumption would reach unprecedented levels.

Will TR be at CES, or monitoring it from Damage Laboratories again?

Too much power needed for that card , it is getting out of hand.
I can understand two connections but 4 is a bit much |

Wow! Another card that I can't buy, for a monitor that I can't have, and with an electric bill that I can't pay!!!

Nice card but too expensive for me atm
I'm sure hd4870x2s will drop close to $400 after GTX295 comes in |

Perhaps the current GTX260/280 is over-ROPed/under-utilized?
