They should release the old and original Nano in the first place... then release a new and improved one.

It would be nice to see any of the Nano CPU in a netbook. I read somewhere VIA has 30% of the netbook market, which doesn't make sense Nano's are impossible to find for sale anywhere. It must not be selling in the states.

Via continues to get some embedded appliance wins, but I'm starting to think their only real hope is in blades for non-compute-oriented servers. They offer a nice perf/watt profile, and the fact that they have hardware support for encryption gives them a real leg up in certain applications -- most notably SSL for webservers. Done right, they could be a kind of poor man's x86-compatible Niagara. Unfortunately, AFAIK they don't have any support for multi-socket SMP. They need to find a partner (HP, IBM) to help them with that.

"Launch" meaning "announce", or "shipping, available, purchasable, in systems, etc"?

Thing about VIA is they are making these new changes for 1 or 2 specific vendors who have pre-committed to buying them, probably IBM. Most of their production will go to who ever that customer is.

LOL, if they haven't decided on the process or even the manufacturer of their shrink, not a snowball's chance in hell we'll see it in '09.

i wonder how it'll compare to atom... hopefully the performance / watt-dollar will be decent, otherwise i really wonder how these guys will stay financed!
