I wonder how many ppl are actually using Netbook as what Intel expected? Or just merely confuse Netbook with another kind of Ultra energy saving notebook. Do you need Netbook? Let put it this way, even Atom can run as fast as E8600 at below 20W, a netbook is still a 10" display devices with little IO slots/expansion. What're you going to do with it? That might lead you to think ... hey, why I need so much processing power with this little gadget in the 1st place?

Well, if it was Lincroft-derived you wouldn't expect them to be talking about a chipset at all. I wonder if the GN40 is a shrink, or perhaps a single-chip integrated NB/SB. More likely it's just a pimped GL40.

This is what we get when there's no competition in a segment.
Also, I recall an article linked from TR where a guy OCed his MSI Wind and showed that extra memory bandwidth didn't help much. |

since the CPU difference is negligible, the question is what differences will the chipset have?

Having a low end chip is one thing, but getting the upgraded chipset is what users really want!
Here's what I see with Atom: it's the *new* Celeron. If you want so-so performance, you're going to get something Atom derived. Want some more juice? You'll get a Core2. |
