It's good to see AMD has a trick up their sleeve to compete with Nvidia's latest onslaught of new cards. If the 4890 is 20 to 30% faster than the 4870 they'll at least take the lead back from the GTX 260, and probably force a price drop on the GTX 285.

I tripped out on that Cooling Innovations HS. I remember back in the day when HS's with pins were all the rage.

Wow, Type3 sounds pretty ambitious. I'd like to know more about that Cone Mapping, though. Sounds neat.

I was getting worried that ATI/AMD were taking it easy in the high end after launching the 4870 last summer. OK stick 2 on the same card, but thats not an ideal solution.
Meanwhile nvidia after being slapped silly early on and being forced to slash prices and rename the shit out of their old chips has now got some good cards at competitive prices from the mid-high and up market. The mid to low end is still very much AMD though, and likely will be until nvidia makes a new chip thats cheaper to produce, rather than depend on older chips that were never designed to sell at those prices. |
