I think the audio is fantastic. I always start listening to it while it's downloading. It sounds great on my laptop speakers as well. I even thought in my head, "dang, sounds good!"
SSID: How long does it take? If the time that it takes to download the podcast frustrates you, it may be time to upgrade your internet connection! ;) |

Wow, Scott laying down the extra hate-sauce on console graphics! Can I offer a counterpoint?
Short Version You're spoiled. Long Version These games that are for the consoles are spec'd out for the 720p resolution (fanboys: yes, the PS3 can do higher) so really, the "system resources budget" is within the domain of what you can do at 720p. In terms of number of pixels, that is considerably less than what PC games are pushing even at the (now pedestrian) 1600x1000 monitors. So understandably, you feel that consoles look inferior to PC games, and that since console games sell in higher volume, PC games are hamstrung because they are developed to the console specs. My friend has a 42" Samsung DLP. Not exactly the best money can buy but nonetheless a respectable TV. I was over at his place some time ago and he put on Resident Evil 5, or Metal Gear 4, or even the Gran Turismo demo that came out a while back. You know what? Even though the TV was set to 720p, the games looked abso-frickin-lutely gorgeous. The fact that fewer overall pixels are being pumped by consoles because of their "inferior" hardware in my opinion is purely academic, (provided you have the matching super-expensive TV hardware to back it up.) I think perhaps you are quick to forget what console games looked like in the 32-bit era, where even something as "simple" as anti-aliasing was a new-fangled luxury. |

Feature Request:
jordan, is it at all possible to trim the file size down? I know you think audio fidelity is important, but downloading this thing takes a while for me sometimes. It also seems unnecessary; the "60 Minutes" podcast from CBS is only 14-16MB in size, or 17% the size of the typical TechReport podcast. |

I don't think the generalization that Dell laptops are clunky and ugly is a valid one. Dell Studio XPS 16 is not a clunky looking laptop - I use one of those for a bit and I was impressed.

Wow, jordan! Good job this time:
-The initial sponsor announcement at the beginning of the podcast was to the point, professional, and informative. -The 2nd plug was inserted in an area that I didn't want to skip, and was just brief enough that it didn't annoy me. It also played to my interests (supporting the podcast), so if I were employed, I would be seriously considering using the coupon. My only critical feedback? In the initial announcement, I'd like to know more specifics about what GoDaddy could provide. For example: I might not want a domain name, but could use some FTP-like server space to upload stuff to. I am not-sure/not-aware if GoDaddy provides this service... but they probably do (or an appropriate substitute thereof). You should do some more research or coordinate with GoDaddy's marketing on what you can say about GoDaddy's services. |
