Philldoe approves. Maby now ID will start throwing out games that I can actually stand to play for more than 3 total hours.

Shame on you, id.

I still don't forgive Bethseda for Star Trek: Legacy being hopelessly broken, and won't directly support the publisher or parent company for some time.

It's what I like to call the Interplay rule (which I came up with after the debacle that was Descent To Undermountain):
-If the game crashes out of the box on a sufficent sample size of the gaming populace, the publisher is a chotch.
TO11MTM's corrolary:
-If you advertize features that don't show up and don't notify people, you're a BIG chotch. (Multiplayer in DTU, Khan battle in ST:L)

Next up: Steam will split from Valve, and either be on its own or sold to another large publisher or unrelated entity. I see it happening within next 12 months.

Zenimax is PRIVATELY held, and thus not subject to the 3-month "must make a profit" cycle of ALL the other major game developers/publishers. Plus Zenimax is sitting on a bunch of cash with more still rolling in from FO3. No wonder John C. is happy - creative freedom and access to top-class level-designers/artists and Todd Howard must be very happy also, having access to thoroughly-modern game-engine technology. A marriage made in videogame-heaven?

So Bethesda can design good games using Id's game engines. Sounds like what people have been saying Id should have done for a while.

Well, as long as Carmack continues releasing his older game engine code under open source (GPL)...I say "Good for them!"

Noooo. ID Software was one of the last few independent dev houses. I hope this goes right, I really respect ID I hope they made the right choice.

I wonder if this means the next Id game will have MS Games for Windows forced onto it like Fallout 3.

It has also been decied that the next game from id Software, Rage, will be updated with such wonderful features as automatic level adjustment, grinding bandits for skills and loot, convoluted character development system and will also feature an intricate dungeon system, so intricate in fact, that it will be one huge dungeon without a minimap and any discerning marks in it.

Have fun.

Conspiracy theory: The " financial and business resources to support the future growth of id Software" includes buying the rights to Duke Nukem Forever and launching it with the Rage engine.

You heard it here first.

"As trite as it may be for me to say that I am extremely pleased and excited about this deal, I am."

What percentage of iD did JC own? What was the purchase price? I need to imagine the size of his 'pleased' expression.

Interestingly, George Broussard of 3d Realms shame fame commented on this story on Shacknews. He approves of the acquisition.

Fantastic news. As some commenters on Shacknews noted, they will no longer be competing with their publisher.

...and hey, maybe Bethesda's next engine will be perfectly stable with a proper console!

I'm more worried about the Bioware and Mythic thingy. I figured EA would make their presence known eventually :-(

Well, hopefully Bethesda can give id's software a good media launch, unlike what Activision has been doing. I'm sure they have the scratch too, with Oblivion and Fallout 3 just raking in the dough.
