uh, why did they split the file into 2 just to force ppl to join the files again?

And the download is painfully slow. Might I suggest using torrent?

Sorry to post outside of the thread, but I want to clarify some things about x86-64. Having spent a lot of time these last weeks reading through the AMD64 Architecture Programmer's Manual* I want to make this knowledge available.

-x86_64 binaries don't take much more space than x86. Almost all of the instructions are the same binary data, and only require a one byte prefix if they are using 64-bit arguments.
-There are twice as many general purpose registers in long mode, and there are certain instructions available that are more efficient for doing the kinds of things that modern OSes do. Not all performance benefits in long mode come from the ability to access more memory.

Those two things said, there are processors that are slower in long mode than legacy mode. Most regular cell phones get by on an 8-bit processor and the first generation iPhone seemed to do just fine with a 32-bit processor. Also - and this is important - most Atom processor models are 32-bit. If most of the netbooks that Android is targeting use 32-bit Atom processors, then Android needs 32-bit support. However, it would be nice to see a 64-bit version of Android for the Athlon Neo processors. Even if it's slower, it's still bragging rights.

Edit: forgot to mention 25, 26, and 28. Also, grammar, and changing "Chrome OS" to "Android." Now that I've realized this news is about Android, and that Android isn't targeting any netbooks, my post makes less sense. I am suitably embarrassed.

I came across this a few days ago. It isn't official; someone on the xda-developers forum decided to cook up a LiveCD to play with. It doesn't actually work properly on much aside from the Eee PC 701, for whose specific hardware it's been built.

Looks interesting. I think starting it as an x86-64 OS might be more useful. I'll have to give it a try.

Networking doesn't work with Parallels, works OK with VirtualBox.
