Still looking forward to seeing and waiting for the dust to settle on how OpenCL and GPU-based streaming apps play out. I would gladly build a 2core/4thread CPU + solid GPU system instead of a quad core or 4core/8thread CPU system in 2010.

Even if PC sales recover in 2010, shouldn't Core i3 (or whatever the 32nm dual-core Nehalem + on-die GPU gets called) reduce GPU sales, at least on the IGP side of things?

i'll be getting amd's next performance part if the price is right (otherwise i'll wait for nvidia's). |

I, like JPR, can also forsee the future.
Virtually no Windows 7 sales all year.. some in the 2nd quarter... but picking up in the 4th quarter and growing in 2010. |

What we lack right now are good mobile GPUs. For a short while, notebook graphics seemed to be catching up with desktop chipsets, but nowadays they've become royal shite again.
Paper launches like Mobility 4850 (which I have yet to see in a single notebook available in Southern Europe) do not help much when all you've really got is a choice between equally crappy 3450, "9600GT", "105M" and crappy intel gpus. And then they wonder why people have switched from expensive notebooks to netbook cheapies... Guess what ; they both run Office and web surfing just fine, and they're both equally useless for demanding uses. Of course I'll go for the 300€ netbook. |
