I have been using my MD for almost 10 years. I am a classical singer, singing everything from church hymns to opera. I've recorder everything I have sung, and the quality is great!! For the size and cost of the unit, you can't beat it. The only problem I had was that I couldn't figure out how to get my MD's onto my computer to burn a normal CD. I ended up having to purchase a stackable unit MD with a digital output. Smooth sailing every since. Highly Recommend!!

I have bought an md r-70.
I'm runnin windows xp.
With the md-port an 1 I can put the music on my minidisc.
The problem is that every sound is being recorded, also the sounds of windows notificications, messenger notifications, ...
Is there any way I can make him record only the media player sounds?

My friend has a minidisc player with usb port build in. He received software with it so he can actually donwload the music without having to play it like I have to do.
Can I use his software to write the music via the md-port an 1? I figured that it could be the same system, only with his newer model, the an 1 port is smaller and build in. But when the signal reaches the write laser, it is decoded the same way, and so, the laser writes it the same way. but only faster with the newer model.

Can I make the minidsc with the names of the numbers on it? (like an m3u- playlist?)
My friend can with his software...

Thank you, Samuel muelsam8@hotmail.com

Who gives a damn how old MiniDiscs are? Damn... CDs are about two decades older than MiniDiscs.

MP3 players are just like Windows CE handheld computers. They are toys for idiots with too much money and not enough brains.

You shell out your last buck for a handful of 64MB CompactFlash cards which hold less than a single CD worth of music at a decent quality... And how often do you let people borrow your music on CF card?

I'll be buying MDs that hold more than a CD can, and cost less than $2 a piece. Not to mention that they never skip, the quality is better, you can record live audio directly to them, you can erase and re-record them more times than even a CF card, and the battery life is much much longer as well.

Just try to give me THREE reasons an MP3 player is any better than MiniDisc.

How is it that MZ-r70 not compatable with XP? If your computer will play the sound you can record it to the MZ-r70 using your sound card or an optical pc link. Of course you can not actually download the data to the md. That is where NetMD comes in,and in that case the mp3 file is converted to ATRAC3 either LP2 or LP4. By the way, md is alive and well in Asia Pacific.

I've used alkaline before and they work fine. Longer battery life. Just don't try to charge them in the R70. Right now I use NiMH AA's, work great (with seperate charger). Unfortunately, my R70 is on the fritz right now; just keeps spinning eternally when I put a disc in.

I have a Sony MZ-R70 mini disc player which I want to take on trips... problem is that the battery needs to be charged every 2 hrs or so. Has anyone tried using regular alkaline batteries? I called tech support and they warned that it could burn out the LCD screen, so I have been afraid to try it.

Wow, finally a place to ask stupid questions on what now appears to be an obsolete bit of technology.
I purchased my MZ-R70 last year- summer 2001.
While I know that tech. goes fast, this definitely outstrips Gordon's law of 18 months.
So, like Zendoc I need to move my MD files off the discs and on to my hard drive. What escapes me is that I had everything configured last year, and now, after having upgraded my OS from Win98SE to XP-Pro, it no longer will recognize my recorder. All the drivers are still in there when I look in my device manager, but when I connect the player, it says that I've got an unrecognized usb device. Also, when I leave it connected during a reboot, it loads all the appropriate drivers all over again, plus that 'unrecognized usb device'.
So much for Sony.....
Help.... Please?

The reason that you cant play the MDs on the R70 is, maybe, because you record on the R700 in LongPlay, and R70 does not support that.
