i have a athlon 600 , produced 04. i was able to oc it with the aid of gfd free speed pro to 700 fairly easily. (did not even have to raise voltage) When i tried to go farther i could not get it stable no matter how much voltage i supplied. Can anyone give me any insight?

random question...i was perusing the Asus website, where they've finally released some details on their newest
Athlon mobo, the K7V (info@ http://www.asus.com/products/motherboard/SlotA/k7v/index.html])...and i was
basically just curious what the compatibility of the "golden fingers", etc w/ the Athlon K7 chips on this mobo
(i'm trying to coneptualize my next computer, and learning about o/c'ing all at once...it gets kinda hairy sometimes)
i wanted to use a K7@800 or 850mhz, then overclock it from there...1st problem i've noticed is that i'm pretty
sure that SoftFSB doesn't support this board, but then again it might be possible to adjust FSB w/o that software
and i'm just too nascent to realize how....
so, in brief summary form...here's my question: what bearing does this new Asus mobo have on overclocking,
and how should i approach the overclocking process using this board w/an Athlon K7 800-850mhz...

i think that does it for now...if you feel like helping me out, please email me...

Now i am not an expert in this area, but i guees my memory that runs in 100 mhz will burn before the cpu does, right?

Do i have a decreasing performance regarding the L2 cache everyone is taliking about, when overclocking the external speed as i do?

How far can i take it without burning my IBM memory modules (100 mhz, anyone have any experience?)

What can the programs discussed in this forum do for me?
I would be very happy if someone could help me with these issues. My email is henrik.franke@se.ibm.com.

Thanks in advance!

Anyway by using K7M new beta BIOS km1229.rom, it will automatically enabled the super-bypass mode of the chipset if the revision is stepping 5 & above unlike old BIOS km1007 which you have to enable it manually by running the Chipid program.

We have tested SoftFSB with the K7M and MSI motherboards. Results seem to indicate that SoftFSB
can set only clock frequencies available on the motherboard via BIOS or jumper settings. In other words, it
cannot generate any arbitrary clock rate, and is mainly useful for changing clock rate without having to
reboot.

If I did this, would I reduce the CPU frequency back to 100? What do you guys recommend as the best way to overclock this setup, without cracking open the CPU?

So I really wait for this damn progy to really overclock my Athlon. I hope I can bring it to 750...

All you need to do is set voltage to 1.75v for 750Mhz(100x7.5(200x3.75) and temp in BIOS=49\'C, 1.85v for 800Mhz(106x7.5(212x3.75(100x8(200x4) temp=53\'C and 1.95v for 850Mhz(106x8(212x4) temp=56\'C, all setting/speed mention for ROCK-SOLID windows programs/games running all day. I was lucky to have bought an Athlon 500mhz with a 650mhz cpu core. My system running with Leadman 400 watts power supply, Cooler Master heatsink/fan with additional slot fan installed at the slot right next to CPU. Anyway all the modification made is to your own risk. Wish you all happy overcloking the ATHLON. May the best FORCES be with you!!!

But remember only if you had Asus K7M and adjusted voltage to 1.75v for (100x7.5(200x3.75)750mhz (Temp in BIOS=49\'C), 1.85v for (106x7.5(212x3.75)800mhz(Temp=53\'C) and 1.95v for (106x8.0(212x8.0)850mhz(Temp=56\'C),and running ROCK-STABLE all day at all the speed above. For MSI you need to pre-soldered the voltage setting for all the mention speed, which i found not so flexible as Asus K7M. So the best team go to Asus K7M + Athlon. I was lucky to had a Athlon 500mhz with a 650mhz core. What i did is, soldered the cpu to 750mhz(or 800mhz) 1.75v L2 1/3speed. So if i want to play around the speed i just need to change voltage jumper(of course without power-up)on Asus K7M and then either change the Bus speed in the BIOS or after boot into Windows desktop. My system with Leadman 400watts power supply, Cooler Master heatsink/fan with additional slot fan installed at the slot right next to CPU. As usual try all the above modification at your own risk, anyway wish all of you the best force be with you.
