Also -- Looks like Apple just announced the GeForce4 for nVidia. Haven't they pissed off nVidia or ATI by doing something like that before?

Whadda ya mean "don't feed the trolls"? That's not the TR way! Damage needs to post a rebuttal on the front page >:)

The first Power Mac to blast through the 1GHz barrier, the new twin-engined G4 runs professional applications like Adobe Photoshop up to 72 percent faster — and crunches digital video over 300 percent faster — than a 2GHz Pentium 4-based PC.[/q]

I had a Palm V, loved the thing. But of course, over time, I ran out of memory since I had stuffed it full of applications.

For 4 months, I searched for a replacement. I thought about the Palm M505 since it's the same form factor as my V, but the color screen on it is a joke. It's hard to see and the quality is terrible. Handspring's color unit is also bad.

Then I looked at the Sony Clie. Beautiful screen on it and I liked the idea of using it as an MP3 player. But, I do not like the Memory Stick standard. The sticks cost too much and they are proprietary. Furthermore, the unit felt cheap and plasticky, like it wouldn't take a drop without damage. There doesn't appear to be any accessories out there for it either.

Sitting right next to the Clie at Best Buy was an iPaq H3835. About 8 months ago, I tried the 3675 for a week before taking it back. The truth is, the OS was horrible. It crashed, it wouldn't run some of the programs that came with the unit, and the support for it was horrible. The 3835 is a different beast.

The screen is now 16bit and larger than any other PDA's. Pocket PC2002 is much improved and a lot more stable. The whole device feels like a mini-laptop rather than a PDA because of all the stuff it can do.

Needless to say, I am the proud owner of an H3835.

Pros: Great quality, good construction, excellent support (so far). Screen is superior to anything availble currently. Extremely versatile: can play MP3s, AVI's, JPEGS, etc right out of the box. Also capable of using current wireless LAN PCMCIA cards (with an adapter). Memory is very expandable, comes with SD slot, but can use CF or PCMCIA if you use a sleeve.

Cons: Software development is a bit behind the Palm, it's a bit bulky (though actually smaller than the last version), PocketPC is very complex for novices. Battery life could be better.

When the screens are replaced with LEP screens, then we will see them become more useful. You could utilize it as a portible vcr.

The comments link at the end of the review goes to the Shuttle AV40R review comments :o

I've got a Visor Deluxe from work for the next few months, and so far the only use I found for it is as a Game Boy substitute. Bejeweled and Spider Solitare can really run down the batteries ;)

PDA; could there be a more boring, superfluous device?
Maybe in 5 years they'll make one that I truly find useful.

It still doesn't do hardware 3D.

Not even Quake 2... I'm not interested. :)
