Yeah, and IIRC 764 pins is just for the Clawhammer version. The Sledgehammer (high-end Opteron) is gonna have even more pins (900+, I forget exactly how many).

Yeah, you got that right... I'd love to play with one as soon as it hits the market, as long as it is someone else's money! I may be able to convince the people I work for to spring for one as soon as Windows for x86-64 is available; they have a Windows app that could kinda use the >4GB of address space.

#7 I think that what we are calling IT nightmare waiting to happen here...my company it planning order 10 2-ways and 10 4-way as soon as it pops out on the market. The though of toying around with a Hammer sounds fun tho...good thing its not my money.

The company I work for is already planning on order as many as 20-30 2-way hammer boxes for workstations and 5 4-way (if available) for servers. I recommended we wait untill at least 4-5 months after they are available to order them, but my warning is going to go unheeded. The VP in charge of major purchasing is a AMD fanboy and wont listen to anything else but "Yes! Order them now!"

#5, unless you want to be one of the guinea pigs, err, I mean early adopters, I'd stick with an Athlon XP (or dual Athlon MP) if you are looking to build a new AMD-based system within the next 6-9 months. My next system build will probably be a dual MP, around August timeframe.
