I don't know who I'm, writing to and don't feel like reading the review over again. Let me just say that I'm even afraid of using liquid coolers on my computer but I would love to try using a liquid cooling device on my computer just for fun. I think that you are very brave to try what you did with the Vapo Chill device. Using even an expensive videocard, very daring of very forgetful. I think that is's simple for condensation to occur and affect your cpu, but I don't think that's the problem. I think that the heat from your cpu was generated by the goo. Let me just say you simply need a single pin on your cpu not touching it's components to cause a short circuit making the cpu heat up. By using your goo I think that atleast one pin on the cpu that you used weren't touching its components and that cause your computer to go berserk. I think you should use the Vapo Chill differently. I think all you need to do is install the cpu before gooing it. As for where all of the other components for the Vapo Chill go that's up to you.

I set up a vapo about 2 weeks ago on a 2.66 and was able to take it to 3.5...didn't experience any condensation in the week I had it folding 24/7 (about 130w of heat output)... point is..if you get one let it run 24/7 (it's actually better for the condensor) and keep a load on it...
I could only recommend the vapo for intel platform, the vapo evap head eats AMD cores like candy... Also I wouldn't say this is the BEST cooling solution...IMO the prometeia is...say...how about reviewing one of those? ;) |

If you don't like the colors people choose, use Phoenix. I'm using it now and This page is black text on a white background :). (I'm not trying to say I don' like the blue, I just like things simple)

Curious as to how loud the system is. You reffered to it as similar to a small dorm fridge but that can actually vary quite a bit. I've read in forums before that the compressor noise is quite loud compared to say watercooling. So what's the dibs.. can you hear the fans inside the case over the compressor or visa versa?

I would like to point out that the total comments (54 Comments(s). 2 Pages(s). Showing page 1. [ 1 2 ]) count is one too low still, IE, when I'm done with this post I will be #56 but it will say 55 comments.
Very nice review btw, I would also like to see TRs server beat out UGOs if the slashdotting gets heavy. |

Say, anyone notice this article is getting Slashdotted? The only indication that something was up is the UGO ads not always loading.

Nice review Mr. Andy Brown
I do appreciate you rectifying a few important key notes on the installation that I thought were very good points. I hope to see more reviews/articles by, not that Scott, and Geoff don't produce good reviews but it's nice to see a few from Andy. Thanks and I wish TR all the best. |

Umm, why is the front page of TR green? Yes. Green instead of blue.
(if it isn't anymore when you read this, then it was just a temporary display problem of some sort, and not a test for changing the looks of TR... looks good though...) |

I think green actually looks better! Keep it, TR has been blue since 1999. Or at least change it to another color. Blue is so depressing... :p

Seems like it'd be better to use a 2.4 or 2.53 GHz proc with C1 stepping. Seems common to get those to 2.8 or 3.0 GHz on air cooling... this might be able to push them up even further.

DEAR GOD. Over half a grant for 400MHz? NO THANKS. I would rather (If i was gonna even buy a P4) get a 3.06GHz P4 and get a good HSF.....
But a informative article Andy ;) now i know not to buy one. |

Consider the long term benefit. You could use this when upgrading chips. I worked with air cooling for a long time and never got good results so I've been looking at getting a water cooled system or something like this.

Pretty pricey - the overclocking you can do with it doesn't offset the cost, not to mention the absurd risk of popping the cpu. I'll pass.
