With new AMD pricing of the 3400+
you could jump in now at a real nice price for immeadiate needs regarding video & audio editing.
Then bump up after AMD 939 Pin FX Cpu's price drop due to WIN XP 64 delay later....I'd have to run the numbers.
One hang up----- You need new ddr also...
your thoughts...

This board would of been useful on Socket 754 launch...I can't see it having a use now.

Nobody will buy this board... Maybe if it was something crazier like Socket A and Socket 939, but not this...

I bet 90% of people upgrade their motherboard every time they upgrade their processor (unless they have ton of money, in which case they really don't fit into the 90% catergory anyway)... The last time I didn't do that was when I replaced my 486DX2/66 with a Pentium 83Mhz Overdrive. Heck, my RAM gets replaced just as often... Hopefully I'll be able to keep my current PC-3200 for my next one though...

That second socket is wasted. People should upgrade their mainboard anyway with PCI Express coming soon and all that..

90% of people do not upgrade their mainboard while they are upgrading their chipset. The only reason people change out the mainboard is to replace a busted one or put a bigger and badder chipset or something in the lines of compatibility issues.

I think what they are doing is a great idea and should be something that every mainboard manufacturer should look into. People who suggest ideas like Socket A to a Socket 939 are dreaming, understand the technology before you suggest something like that.

Also, the second socket is not wasted, it is a way for people to UPGRADE. Remind you that not all people want to change out every piece of hardware everytime they upgrade. The mainboard is like an engine block in a car, you almost never want to replace the entire thing if you can help it.

This is all AMD's fault. If they only started with Socket939 in the first place, we wouldn't have this problem at all.

If only you could use them together!

Blah. I think I've upgraded a processor without swapping a board like twice in the past 6 years - and one of them was going from a P4 2.8 to a 3.2 a few months back.

More like it reminds me of the old Tyan Trinity 371 for the Pentium III when it had both a slot and socket.

Very cool idea.
Reminds me of the early Socket7 boards with 30pin and 72pin SIMM sockets.
