I'd be really really surprised if Alienware's system was faster. Since their system is purely software based, it'd seem like there would be more overhead than Nvidia's solution which is at least partially hardware based.

Oh sweet, they are going to offer it on Matrox boards! That means that my head can be casted twice it's normal size with no loss in frame rate. Parhelias, here I come!

are all future Nvidia pci-e cards going to feature SLI? if not then i can definately see where users may want to use the alienware method with nvidia midrange and mainstream cards, should they not be supported on chip.
