What is the deal. That is a huge stoop for Id. I had respect for them. What is the deal w/ Creative owning the gaming sound. They have the best sound for games w/ EAX but they can't support tehir own crap and no one else can use theirs. Why doesn't the gaming industry own the standard and tell the sound card mfgs what to use.

I know it isnt perfect by any long shot. You whole freaking patent system is just about worthless except for the lawyers. The point being, its not the end of the world, and the consumers doesnt really have to pay extra with either money or less performance. And its a workable solution even if its not the moral loss.

And if creative sits on a patent and ID dont have to pay alot because they include EAX, perfect.
Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=14459&forum=9 Read Carmacks views. |

I wonder WTF people do with their computers for their creative soundcards NOT to work. Sure, creative may have a few problems, but people seem to make it like its the end of the world. The Audigy 2 is a pretty decent thing compared the Via KT133 and SB Live fiasko anyway.
Take a look at TerraTec Aureon Sky 5.1, sounds nice, great card, cheap and still not a driver update in sight, and they have compability problems here and there. I couldnt get mine to work in Cool Edit Pro 2.0, havent tested the beta drivers though. Come on, its a freaking game, and just like a majority of the other games out there, it will have EAX support. Big deal. And if creative sits on a patent and ID dont have to pay alot because they include EAX, perfect. Then they dont have to charge the customers for that. |

I sent an email to toddh@idsoftware.com and johnc@idsoftware.com way back and simply told them, no co-op, no money from me. I'll just play the pirated version till then. If they had co-op, I gladly send them $60 for my copy. Kinda of sad since I can't even remember the last time I pirated a game. Anyway, I agree with most of these points:

Don't blame ID.
Id has used a lot shadows in Doom3. Creative has a patent on doing shadowing in a particular way. Creative wants every Doom3 gamer to use a Creative Audio card. So EAX will be added to Doom3 and ID and Creative will "cooperate" on shadowing. See its all really nice. |

I thought that Carmack said they weren't going to do hardware audio?
Hmmm. If only A3D 2.0/3.0 were still alive. |

Creative will buy nvidia or AMD will gobble them or vice versa eventually. Sounds whacky enough it just might work.

Yeah, I can buy a Creative or else I might as well just use the canned onboard sound. The sound card market just sucks. :( I just don't care anymore.
