I would have to disagree about socket 939 being the better "future" purchase as new boards coming out will be different as always, having PCI-E and all that jazz. So really I think it matters little about the "future" proofablity of 939. If you are will or wanting to upgrade your CPU as often as some of us you will probably buy a new board to go with it. If you don't upgrade all that often you will end up getting a new borad with your new CPU sooo.
I want to see how the 3400+ with 512 cache and 2.4Ghz clock works in comparison to itself and the 3500+. |

Thanks for getting the new 3200+ and 3400+ on the chart. :-)
I was beginning to feel like it was the twilight zone, where none of the sites were mentioning the 754 newcastles at all. (I'm not sure if the 3000+ was a newcastle. Thought initially, at least, they were clawhammers that had half the cache turned off.) Could these two be added to the review at some point soon? I'd be willing to donate some money toward you being able to buy a 3200+ and/or 3400+ for testing. Its just that I think it would be *so* useful. Seems like lots of people are trying to find the sweat spot, or determine if they should wait. The 3200+/3400+ look *really* promising right now because of the price of the 3200, and the clock for the 3400. I think people want to know if 939 is worth all the extra money, or any are worth it at all, seeing as how the 90 nm and PCI-E are comming in the next 6 months. There is also a seemingly endless debate about the newcastle vs clawhammer too for the 3200+, for the cache vs the clock, and if worth finding any clawhammers that are still left. |

Question:
So how hot is the Athlon 3500+ over the Athlon 3800+ or Athlon FX-53? First time poster. :) |

Why has no-one taken the 2.4ghz a64 3400 (512kb cache) for a ride against both the 2.2ghz 3400 (1mb cache) and the 2.2ghz 3500 (512kb cache).
Thats a contest id like to see :) |

"That doesn't take into account Intel's latest LGA775 chips, but those require virtually a system-wide upgrade."
The thought does occur that upgrading to a 3500+ kinda involves a system-wide upgrade too. :-) |

Why no 754 newcastles in review?
The Clawhammers are drying up. Didn't even mention the 754 newcastles in the chart. We are still not getting a 2.2 Ghz Newcastle 754 vs. 939 comparison. I love this site, and appreciate the efforts in making the review. But a little disappointing. |

On 3DMark03 the 9800XT performed better cause of optimized shaders in the R360 core but aside from that... upgrade time!

I'm willing to bet we see a nose dive in 754 prices right around the 22nd of the month.
Negative. http://www.overclockers.com/tips00629 The price cuts for the 22nd of August are already here. There will be no more dips and as noted in the link above AMD processors will be more expensive than the Intel models they are priced against on the 22nd. AMD is not looking to sell you a cheap processor. They are not your friend. They have a new strategy and it's to make sure they get maximum dollar out of your hide. Hence the recent AXP price increase. |

I'm willing to bet we see a nose dive in 754 prices right around the 22nd of the month. I'm running a 3000 right now, but will get a 3700 in a heartbeat if the prices falls to around $300.

i like my 3500+ but i have had trouble getting a stable OC. I can attribute it to 2 matters, but i'm curious as to which one is the more impotant.
#1) I have all 4 dimm slots filled. #2) or 2 of the dimms are xms 4000 and the other 2 are xms 4000 pro (the ones with the LEDs) I could only find the pro when i bought my second gig, but i figured, same timings, same brand, no difference? |

FP! Nice, for now I'll stick to my 3000+ S754, but perhaps after the first of the year this will look even more attractive!
