GeForce6200 |
I have a 6200 and I just wanted to say that they can overclock nicely. It is not TC and has 128bit memory bus. It will play all the games I throw at it. I do not overclock a lot but the test center recommened a core clock of 350 and mem of 600. Under high settings on BF2 the temp is only 54 celcius with stock fan and idle is 45. I am very happy with it and it works well for all the new games.

The 6200 likely will come in agp and pci as apposed to pcie flavors AFTER the competeing 5000/4000 series chips have run out of stock.
Liekly various variants on the 6200 will pop up late next year to fill in as the old 4000 gets retired and the 5200 gets retired. |

For everybody talking about the lack of an AGP part: the 5700 is the same price as the 6200, widely available, and offers roughly equivalent performance. It would make no sense for NV to spend its resources competing with itself by offering an AGP 6200, especially considering how much of a struggle .11 card availability is right now and the high transistor count of NV43.
For the midrange, it's a travesty that NV hasn't gotten a 6600 AGP out. But the 6200 just isn't enough of an improvement over the previous generation to justify bridging it. |

If only the 6600 was $199 like the TR 6600 review said it would be. (It's not, it's higher,) If only there was more any availability, a month after the review (Still backordered.) If only the card was released on a platform that, say, more than 5% of people had?
Yeah, wishful "if only's." Bitter? Only because I find it pointless to review even more paper releases for corporate entities. WHERE ONLY OEM'S CAN GET THEM. Might as well review Dell branded floppy disks! or year 2006 Limited Edition Porsche Boxters! Do reviewers ever feel like tools reviewing parts that aren't, like, *ever* available? And then you recommend them! unbelieveable! |

I don't think the fact that the 6200 loses against the X600 Pro is as bad as it sounds - given that the X600 was really just around to hold the fort until the X700 showed up, I wouldn't be surprised if ATI dropped the X600 in the near future.

Speaking of http://techreport.com/etc/comparo/graphics/ - as indeego was - is that actually linked properly anywhere from the front page? I always have to resort to searching for it ...

Where is X300 Pro go? Why not they should make new X300 Pro model? It would better price than before...then that's problem...Nvidia 6200 PCI-E are very good to running Doom 3 with enough 60FPS the 1024x768.

It will be interesting to see FarCry tests on this card when they bring back the SM3.0 patch.
Next year this will be the only low end card to get as more motherboards support PCIe and more games support SM3.0 ATI has a lot of catching up to do. It would be a waste of money to buy a card today that does not support Directx 9.0C unless you uprgrade every 6 months....although ATI is not due to support it for at least a year. |

I would have been curious to see how it stacked up with the 6600 and x700 as well... oh well
when's the next round-up  |

It's a shame that this is not going to be available in AGP flavor as that would be a large market for people who want to play newer DX9 games without having to get a mobo and possibly CPU upgrade also. It's these people who can live with 30~40 fps at 1024 and don't need 90+ or rez up to 1600 that hardcore gamers who would just as soon buy/build a whole new system for PCI-E anyways would. They always snuff us bargain basement shoppers. :(

Seems like something just to make OEMs pleased with filling in their low-mid range PCIe nvidia gap. Still no reason to rush over to PCIe though.

Aye, I have to agree with #18 about alternative genres; Anandtech took to including NWN a while ago, which was a bonus, as I've spent a ton of hours playing it ...
Perhaps KOTOR2/NWN2 when they come out would be worth adding? Or RTS type thingies like Dawn of War? |

All that matters is the price of the cards and if they are available to end users in retail (I'm sure some will get there).
X300SE = ~$90 X300 = ~$130 PCX6200 = $139 (average of $129 to $149 as article mentions) X600Pro = ~$150 So yeah, the X300 looks like a really bad purchase given that the 6200 performs so much better. I don't know how much worse the X300SE is than the X300 though. However the X600Pro doesn't look that bad a purchase in comparison. |

these cards will also probably drop quite a bit in price almost right away. everytime we see a new release, the actual price (on newegg or wherever) always seems to be 15-20% less than the official list.
i think nvidia has a winner here as these will shortly hit the 100 dollar mark. |

BTW, Dissonance I noticed you used a racing game (yay!). You should put more in your reviews since they are hugely popular, easy to benchmark (and fun to benchmark too), and seem to be under-represented in the benchmarking world. More RPG benchmarks too.

Clearly the x600pro is the card to have in that price range. You can get a x600pro for 125$ on newegg right now (sapphire to boot). Not saying it’s necessarily cheaper since that is a OEM flavor but they are going to be so close it doesn’t matter. Maybe if this thing was 100$ and a 6200Ultra was on its way….

just brew it! |
Seems a bit odd to me to release a "budget" card only in PCIe flavor. IMO a big chunk of the market for cards in this price range are people with older (AGP) systems who just want to be able to play the newest games with some of the eye candy turned on.
I suppose nVidia may be seeing it as a way to help drive sales of their PCIe-enabled Athlon64 chipset... |

Excellent review as always. <3 TR. No stone left unturned.
One thing though; you didn't mention SM2 vs 3 in Far Cry, so I assume you were using the 1.1 patch? |

Seems like manufactures are abandoning AGP very quickly. I just bought a 939 board and don't expect to buy a new board anytime soon, I hope this 6800 GT I got with it lasts as long as the board. :(

Yeah, seems like they changed places with each other one more time.
In my opinion NV is now on the lead. I hope to see ATI response soon. Competition is good for us! |
