Alright. You guys are idiots. Here's what's going to happen:
VooDoo5 6000 never hits. Tapes out? Yeah. But never makes production. Last model will be Rev. 3700a. 1.33Gigatexels/s, not 1.47 as some fags hoped. What it needed to be able to stab the GeForce2 GTS in the face with a rusty knife will have been: A.) DDR-RAM (or 256-bit SDRAM), and B.) A bloody hardware Transform Clipping and Lighting unit. The Rampage would've raped the GeForce2 MX, GTS, Pro, Ultra, and the GeForce3. It's successor, Fear, would've pwned the GF3, 4, and even the fucking faggot-ass GFFX 5800 Ultra. Why? 3dfx Pwnz Joo o.O 3 years later, the Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB DDR will be introduced (3dfx having long been extinct), which will display framerates more than 20x that of a 3dfx based card. 3dfx STILL pwnz you though. |

gf2? no thanks, kyro 2 is an adequate replacement for my voodoo 3.
I wonder how the gf "crossbar memory architecture" is related to the voodoo 5 dual memory banks. I wonder how the gf AA that isn't 4x but no slower than 2x is related to the very smooth output of a voodoo running glide. I wonder about voodoo 5 soft tnl and hsr. I have noticed that new gf cards may have soft hsr. para < so I'll remember that it was me if I ever see this again |

Ahhh, first post of 2002... All you 3dfx/Voodoo 5 fans who just won't conform and buy a GF2, you should check out WickedGL at www.wicked3d.com. It's an OpenGL miniGL driver that is the saviour for the 3dfx cards.

Someone said Glide is dead???? I believe the Vodoo cards can handle Glide, D3D, and OpenGl. The Geforce handles only ancient D3D and "lost in the dark" OpenGl.Ask the real gamers what they think, they will tell you Unreal and Descent look best on Glide.

Ok "dumbass" Listen here, i just wasted $80 on a Gforce2 Mx400 64mb. I put it in, and after restarting my system about 23 times becuase it kept crashing (something that NEVER happened with ANY Vodoo product I had before), I finally got it to work in D3D and OpenGl, both of which SUCK!!! Glide is the best language EVER for 3d games. I pulled it out and put my Vodoo3 16mb back in. The bottom line, the Vodoo had better frame rates. My advice to everyone, find any Vodoo and hold on to it, cause they are and always will be the best accelerators out there.

Oh well, it's all over now...
the creators of 3d gaming are no more! why did I buy 3dfx (before they crashed last december)? Much better 2D! (people forget about this!) pci! £70 (under $100) for voodoo 5500 !! Most PC's sell with a 15" monitor in the UK! Hardly anyone I know uses above 17" monitor / 1024x768! Also, most gamers only use 16 bit - at this level with these screen sizes and resolutions 3dfx looks better - especially with older games! which it is much more compatable with!! Quake 3 is just one game out of thousands. Half Life is better! anyway... but that's another argument. nvidia technology still isn't available in many good games! and my orchid righteous voodoo which was / is wicked!! all this in mind I'd go for the voodoo 5500 every time. but now the geforce3 is out... hmmm? nope! still not $100 dollars is it! there you have it!! - get your hands on some of this retro kit now! don't forget the newer beta drivers which are still on the 3dfx website!!! |

hi , im new to the world of graphics so please wont someone help the smaller fish in this obviously large ocean. i just bought a rivia tnt2 m64 card and installed to my celeron 600 ,192meg,system . i uninstalled my 8meg onboard prosavage in the control pannel options and loaded, off cd rom, my rivia drivers. when i interrigate my computer it tells me the rivia is working without any conflicts , but when i play any game(with now improved graphics) the game will freeze and not even ctrl/alt/delete will unfreeze, I have to press reset to restart . What have i done wrong, and how do i get it to work properly? my name is justin and i live in south africa , over here we pay half a months wages to get one of these cards and i would apriciate any advise i can get. my email add is : justin3@telkomsa.net hope to hear from you soon , thanks

Just bought a voodoo5 5500 and its looks pretty good I must say, but having played half life and team fortress on my old voodoo 3 3000 I really can't tell much Diff. And I still can't seem to get TFC or HL to run in OPenGL at any video setting!
sierra has the option to run in OPenGL so why wont it run in it? or should I not worry about OPenGL and just run in D3D? If I am stuck with just D3D then I will just take this $300 v5500 back and keep my $70 v3000! |

whoever wrote the article up above must be a dumass to think that the voodoo would beat the geforce in quote "real world scenarios" u need to go take a gander at www.sharkyextreme.com and notice that when used on Quake 3 arena, the geforce 2 gts basically beat the shit out of the vodoo 5 5500. ty come again ur all loosers if u think 3dfx is better

by the way go to www.sharkyextreme.com where they put the top 3d cards (excluding the geforce 2 ultra which ownz all but cost too much) up against each other including the voodoo 5 5500. interesting how the card i just bought Nvidia Geforce 2 gts, kicked the voodoos ass. and there are graphs and allt he data u'll ever need to realize that geforce kicks 3dfx ass.

This is funny. I'm just sitting back watching the shots go back and forth. Seems that most posters here forgot one thing - we're not here to flame opinions on "Why my board is better" - we're here to see the raw data so we can make that decision ourselves. So far all I've seen is a lot of hype and a ton of bullshit. And you know what - actions talk - bullshit walks. Get the drift?

Wheel of time, NFS5, Motorhead, Unreal Tournament... just to mention some... NOTE THAT I TESTED ALL THESE GAMES ON THE V3 USING D3D, NOT GLIDE... btw: glide was good too... (and YES, the drivers are latest, tested a couple of motherboards and processors, reinstalled everything.. NO WAY !!) so where is that fu**ing \"BETTER NVIDIA DRIVERS\" ?????? they build the best cards on the world (actually available) and let a shitty voodoo3000 perform better in D3D ????? they update the drivers daily... and still no improvement in D3D??? no way i\'ll throw away my money for such a crap i think i\'ll never buy something new in my life... it is MUCH better buying something you already know. |

Having seen the three boards in action (v5 5500 - v5 6000 - gef2gts) at the latest E3 I can add some comment. 1) nVidia again has the top in technology. GF2GTS has hell of things in it but... do we need them? I spent a lot of money for the Annihilator, just to discover that the \"real one\" was the DDR-powered version that came later. And just to discover that the only things I could see using T&L engine so far are the beautiful nVidia\'s demo (and some Evolvas...). nVidia is producing very good hardware, but we still have to wait for developers to support it. Now I can say that switching from a TNT 2 Ultra to a Geforce 256 was a mistake. In the end, even on a fast machine, I tend to use 16 bit color when playing Arena on Internet, since 32 bit is not necessary and too heavy to handle. 2) 3dfx IS late. Releasing a 5500 6 months ago could be a real kick in nVidia\'s ass. But still we\'re waiting. The point for 3dfx is video quality. And I can assure you that FSAA IS a point. Not in Arena or in fast shooters (hardcore gamers play w/h no textures at all, sometimes) BUT for all the other 3d powered games. Look at Colin McRae (not a very good game, talkin\' about graphics) on a 5500 w/h FSAA activated and you\'ll be astonished. Same thing about newly released racing - simulation - rts - whatever 3dgame. Not shooters... there we barely look for details. 3DFX\'s choice is good because you buy the card, you stick it in and you do have a visual improvement. 3) doing benchs on incredible resolutions... well, I can\'t see the point. Lots of gamers still have a 15\'\' monitor and they won\'t take advantage on a board that runs 100 fps Arena at 1600*1200. But an average 800*600 with FSAA, well, changes a lot and I\'ve seen it with my eyes. 4) V5 6000 is some sort of beast, but costs too much. It has a lot of hardware and memory and the price is obviouslly high. Just for richers, no doubt. In the end, what board is to be chosen? Well, I\'d rather choose a 3dfx. I prefer play a FSAA enabled game at 800 (obtaining a wonderful video quality and a convincing speed) than having a board that ask me, once again, to wait to enjoy its capabilities. |

All i gotta say is that any monkey can throw a sh*tload of chips and RAM onto a card and claim that its faster. But where's the innovation? Where's the efficiency? Down the toilet...
NVIDIA has always pushed the envelope of implementing new technology to make their chips do more things and do them more efficiently than 3dfx could ever dream of. 3dfx is CONSTANTLY behind on current technology. They just now have implemented 32 bit color when the technology has been around for years. They dont have T&L (which is a necessity for those of us on sub-600 MHz processors), they dont have per pixel shading, they dont use a smaller micron process, they dont require less resources, they dont do a LOT of things. The only card that has a chance of even touching the GeForce 2 (only where fps are concerned) is the V5 6000... and the V5 6000 is the epitome of inefficiency! The V5 6000 will cost twice as much as the GeForce 2, but will it perform twice as well? Not a chance in hell. People need to open their eyes and realize these things before they open their wallets to shell out their hard earned cash for crappy, out-dated technology. |

At around 50-60 fps, most people can not percieve a difference, You have a point about 100fps being stupid, but are you really going to play Q3 the rets of your life??? A steady 30 would be enough I mean think about it, T&L kicks ass, I have two systems, both Identical to the tee, except one has the voodoo 5 and the other a Geforce and when it comes to testing these to systems there really is nothing between them, unless you freeze the game and take a screen shot on both systems and sit there and compare them, you as a consumer are not going to notice the flaming difference. It has also been proved that the Voodoo excels in simulation games such as flying or racing and there is no improvement in First person, so there goes Quake and all alike. T-Buffer is over rated, again you hardly see it unless you freeze the frame and look at a horizon on some flight sim! The Geforce on the other hand is that little stronger in all areas. It is true that few games use the new T&L but look at anything that first comes out, PLaystation for instance, took ages for games to come out. It really depends on the developer. They will use what they are comfortable with, and 3DFX will always have the edge. As for the comment about what games use Glide, try Rollcage Stage II I rest my case |
