Well, I think even though gmail is still "invite only", I think everyone who wants one has one...

To their credit, they do have to add significantly more storage. Probably not fifty times as much, but still, a very large multiplier. You don't deploy that overnight.

Yep, like SnowDog said.

Microsoft took until two weeks ago to give 250MB to my Hotmail account. Didn't matter, because I'd already left them for Gmail. The last straw for me was when Hotmail got rid of its WebDAV e-mail retrieval for non-paying folks. This allowed me to both ditch Hotmail and Outlook Express at the same time. Now I can be happy using Firefox for web, Thunderbird for e-mail, and I can now set up my Gmail account to work with Thunderbird. I don't know what Microsoft was thinking on this one, maybe it's not that big of a deal that people use these products, but their strategy this year has made it easy to kill market share in web browsing, e-mail reading, and their e-mail service.

P.S. I didn't leave for the gig of e-mail. 25-100MB would be enough for me. I left for a better service, with better features. Something to think about, Microsoft.

Gmail now has free POP access..

My gmail was just upgraded with free POP access, this will insure I make it my #1 account.

Oh and they have a statement that they have no plans to charger for POP.

Way to go google...

Err, Yahoo! did the 100MB upgrade several months ago, and that went through without a problem. I think they only announced the 250MB upgrade within the past week, scheduled for sometime in the future, presumably early next year.

Hotmail has been slow, yes. I don't think it is fair to put Yahoo! in the same category!
