The TNT2 is not ancient you can still buy them new (in a shrink wrapped box) for $70 at the PC store up the street. Best gaming experience available. It says so on the box.

quick and easy transition? we've been transitioning for the last two years (not quick) and 64 bit windows has been delayed for almost that long (not easy).

Great article, extremely interesting to read and well written.

That Shuttle Media Center looks sh!t hot if i must say so myself, although im fearing that they will be charging ~ £1000 for it which will make it bit of an extravagent purchase to say the least (specially since i wont even b spending this much on my soon to be purchased LCD tv!).

Heh...of course non-DX9 cards won't be supported by ATi...who's going to shell out for an A64 and cripple it with a Radeon 9000? I mean, gaming performance, come on! OMG TEH SUX0RZ!!!!11111!!!!one!!!eleven11!

On the other hand and all kidding aside, big OEM's might change ATi's tune if they want to put a Radeon 9200 in an Intel box with Win64 to keep costs down...maybe not...they could just use eXXXtreme integrated graphics.

And why is it just eye candy when Apple does it, but it's a big deal when Windows goes the same route, and it's not even available yet?

There's something about pronouncing "WinHEC" that seems a bit....odd. Or accurate, maybe.

One thing concerns me about using 3D in the UI, and that's driver stability. It's going to have to be a hell of a lot better than it is now.

New gui effects, dymanic icons... I like how it will still take the same amount of time to display a directory on my next computer that it does now.

What flavours of Windows server are going to be made available in x64? I've just built a few Opteron servers for work and I phoned my favourite MS licencing place asking for x64 media. They told me that only Enterprise Ed. is available in x64 at the moment. Bit of a sod considering its five times the price of Standard...

Mm glass windows in windows! Is the taskbar going to be called the "sill" and look like wood, with 3D textures and everything?

lol, sounds like it shall be cool. And my computer is beefy enough still (at almost 3 years old and a few upgrades) to run it.
