If the Scout code can run calculations 12X faster could it enable GPU's to process video and audio without much of a performance hit?

arn't they kinda reinventing the wheel a bit I mean awsome work in all but arn't there several different languages for GPU's right about now liike brook and what not

It's almost as if they're using a gpu to simulate physics.

hmmm...

That much closer to a 3rd process for Folding@Home. :)

Anything that brings folding on GPUs closer is cool with me...

I wish Stanford would talk about their GPU client more...

I don't know much about Scout specifically, but there's lots of interest in general purpose computing using GPUs. Take a look at www.gpgpu.org . There are other languages like Brook that are also for doing generic (non graphics) computation with GPUs.
The most important recent development in the field is PCI-E. :-) That's because AGP has very low bandwidth going from the card to the CPU. This kind of compute likes to send lots of data both ways, unlike a game which just sends textures and polygons from the CPU to the GPU.

I don't even see the code anymore. I just see blond, brunette, red head.
