What an interesting card -- perfect for people unwilling to move up to PCI-E.
Great review, too. |

You can now use any AIW with the Theatre 200 chip with MCE 2005. The new drivers will work and one can now use the tv tuner with MCE.

Ever heard of NVTV though? there's still some vague effort going on at nvdia I think.

Excellent review. I am a huge fan of AIW cards, having owned 5+, but I think i'll pass though and stick with my AIW 9800Pro.
This one doesnt give me enough reason to upgrade. I still want: Dual DVI Dual Tuners, with at least one being HDTV (even if I have to use a second PCI slot), Component INPUT as well as output. Near silent cooling / passove cooling |

Yeah, this is a great all-around card, but here's an interesting tidbit: A couple weeks ago, a cable guy came out to install digital cable. He checked the noise levels and told me that the AIW X800XT was feeding enough noise back into the system to screw the reception of everyone on the pedestal. I disconnected the cable from the card and the noise was cleared up. Fortunately the problem was resolved by putting a filter between the card and the cable. He suggested that the noise was most likely a result of the card's fan. Hmm...
I can't say I'm overly impressed with the AIW aspect, but I'm not using it in a htpc so it serves my purposes fine. I can get a stable oc of 555/560 with the stock cooler, whcih gives a nice performance increase. From what I've read, a lot of people are getting good oc results with these. |

"The All-in-Wonder's R420 graphics chip is identical to that of the Radeon X800 XT, as are its core and memory clock speeds, so 3D performance should on-par with the Radeon"
Has anyone tested if performance is the same for real ? The lower price has me a bit worried ... |

Whoa, 55db that's loud. It pretty much kills it as a choice for my HTPC. Quietness is key, especiallly in the living room, I can't believe ATI would overlook something like that. . Fan noise would be extremely annoying during quiet scenes.

A thorough job, as always.
However... I wonder if a useful comparison would be to the ATI TV Wonder Elite that you guys reviewed a couple of weeks months ago? At least to compare the video capture functionality. It would be interesting to see the practical benefits of the Theater 550 chip vs the 200 chip that's in the AIW cards. |

I don't like having my electronics being limited or with parasite circuits placed in the hardware to help get Fat Cats stay rich.
Boycott ATI.
