Just finished my latest batch of upgrades. Now running (previous hardware)
dual P3/600E as P3/800EB (Athlon700@1Ghz) 1.5Gb PC133@166 CAS2 (eat that, cost me ~2G$) (512Mb PC100 CAS2) Tyan Tiger 133A (FIC SD-11) 4x75Gb RAID0 ATA/100 for 300Gb of scream (2x20Gb RAID0 ATA/66) Voodoo5 5500@200Mhz / GeForce2 PCI@240/400 (GeForce1 overclocked to 160/380) Cheapass 100bT NIC x2 (Cheapass 100bT NIC x2) ripped to chunks Inwin S500 (ripped to chunks Inwin S500) 42" speaker stacks off my studio stereo (little 12" *things*. They sucked.) SBlive (SBlive) Think that's it. That's what Chapter 13 really means. You give all your stock to a *VERY* good friend, officially kill your business, then split your stuff with your bud after the proceedings wrap. I'm independant again, if anyone works with a big PC maker and wants me. :) -Forge |

Back at the Gerbil... I hear ya. One thing I've learned though, is to make my computer make money for me. Plus, being here in Japan, they have lots of "used parts" stores, where I can hock my old stuffs and get "newer" used stuff...and they back it up with a "no sh*t" two week money back guarantee on all parts sold. Plus, they test each piece coming in, as I have seen them do with my stuff that I've "sold back". At least your system does what you want it to do!

To the other gerbil... I set mine up and constantly upgrade to enhance performance while using Photoshop, 3D StudioMax, Shade 3D, and also to include fragging the northern half of Japan in Quake]|[ and UT. I had a system like yours once, but I was tired of having enough time to cook and eat dinner while waiting for a 3D filter to process in Photoshop. I use mine... but it sounds like you could be better off with a stereo and tape deck! hehehe... ;-) (not a flame, don't take it personal!)
