LOL at all this Intel hate, Shintai withstanding.

Now AMD just needs to keep executing, keep chipping away, without making any egregious errors.

I just hope that Intels next generation Conroe lives up to expectations maybe then they might regain market share. After being a hardcore Intel fanboy for 10 years, wouldnt even consider AMD for anything, but eventually made the defection over to AMD in 2005 thanks to their Athlon X2 !!

I wonder i f we are beginning to be a OMG suck before reading the subject, if its even read.

First there is the Q4 to Q1..you cant compare these two as mentioned by another. Compare Q1 to Q1 last year and you see facts. 100-500mio less depending on result. Thats some 2-5%

Revenues are 400-600mio of projected. A tiny change in the flash marked can do this alone. For those saying AMD eats their marketshare, im sure Intel calculated with this and on the other hand, Dell keeps growing!
Oh ye, remember Intel chipset changes and shortages?

Anyway, we know AMDs marketshare grown abit on the non OEM part. But that market is very small actually and its without Dell. And Dell is more or less every 5th PC alone.

Anyway, Conroe XE is ~65% faster in specint and about 25% afster in specfp than a 2.8Ghz dualcore 2x1MB cache AMD64 CPU ;-)

~3000 specint, ~2750 specfp.

IDF is 3 days away now! (From my timezone)

Oh ye, and say hello to prescott heating AMD FX series in socket AM2.

OMG I totally predicted this. The stupid Netburst and the space heater P4 was Intels undoing. I love AMD and AMD loves me. This is the pinnacle of my life.

Oops.

Better start cranking out those new chips!

Let's hope Conroe and buddies reestablish Intel as a credible competitor to AMD. Either way, Intel doesn't have a huge amount to worry about simply because of AMD's limited production capacity.

Oh and FP!

Conroe will fix any performance gaps. Then you still have intel name and unlimited money to advertise..No worries...DDR2 won't do shat for AMD but lower it's power consumption a bit.... Intel only has one thing to worry about - ther monopolistic practices which court will probably slam them on to the tune of 2-6 billion and impose injuctions on thier practices according to legal peeps.

At worst, that's a 17.2% drop from Q4 2005 to Q1 2006

The more appropriate number is the drop in expected earnings, anywhere from 0% to 10%. It's completely dishonest to look at the drop from Q4 to Q1 since (1) sales are seasonal and (2) their Q4 was 6% higher than last year. One would expect that high numbers of holiday purchases would take away from Q1 sales.

It's like looking at quarterly figures during and after the big GM and Ford sales last year and concluding that sales dropped 25% (complete guess). Sales dropped, but only because the market was saturated.

FWIW I'm no defender of Intel and I have purchased more AMD processors than Intel by a margin of 5 to 1. Moreover AMD is certainly gaining market share. However the quoted figures are very misleading. A better comparison would be between AMD and Intel's quarterly earnings, where whole-market fluctuations could be factored out.

Lastly, it could also be that people are holding out for the next gen products that have already been announced. Neither AMD nor Intel has introduced anything amazing lately, so it's possible that last year's products were more appealing.
