PLASTIC SURGEON |
Damn. So many fanboys creeping out of the dark! Just when you thought Techreport was above all this.....
Finally after some time Intel fanboys have something to cheer about and AMD fanboys are a little sad today....Answer? Who gives a rats ass! Competion is great. This is the sort of thing you want in the marketplace. The way you fanboys yap, it would seem you would rather have "your" favorite company "you think you own" have the monopoly and then screw you over price and performance because competion is not present anymore. "Gee, WE win! Our CPU is faster! Yipppppeeeeee!!!!!" I have to laugh at all you babies jumping up and down like you won the lotto. What are you nerds 12? YOU DO NOT OWN INTEL OR AMD so why the hell should you care who is faster or slower? Like they give a rats ass what you think besides lining their collective pockets. Some of you clowns take this ATI vs. Nvidia, AMD vs. Intel so personal like it's your own reputation is on the line. Good god people, it's just a frekn chip. It's not like the world hangs in the balance because of this. |

I can't wait to rid myself of the DC Opteron I currently use and get me some Conroe ASAP. (and more importantly, a no-questions asked, no jumping through hoops required Intel chipset that just works)

Man what's with fanboys. Friggin Oblivion fanboys. 360 vs. PC fanboys. PS3 PSP Revolution. Now we get the AMD and Intel devotees. Yikes. WTF. I hate the human race.... glad I'm not human, so that's ok!!
AMD has held the lead for years. Undeniably. Though Dothan wasted A64 in power consumption and was nearly its performance equal. Other than that notebook chip however, P4 has been the obvious disgrace of technology for like 5 years lol. Of course, it had a few moments of grace, but it's intro was pathetic and the last two years have been watt-burning disasters. Finally they catch up and holy hell breaks loose in here about how craptastic AMD is. Right..... Sweet chip though. Can't wait till I can buy one or four. But man, AMD has been awesome for the past few years and kudos to them for that. They are this tiny little company vs. a monster, and they managed to outdo the monster thoroughly for a long time. We'll see what happens next round. Amazing stuff what Intel has put together. In the mean time, I shall enjoy both my Dothan 2133 MHz notebook and dual core Opteron 2.5GHz quite a bit. Amazing chips they are too. |

Does any one have any idea why the systems had ATi mainboards instead of nV?
Just curious. |

wow so many fanboys in here, hard to see the real post from the crap.
If those benchmarks are true, and i'm hoping they are for competition sakes, they are not impressive. intel is huge compared to AMD, just about 80% market share and tons more cash. Yet it took them 3 year to come up with an answer. Show's how much they care about all u guys willing to die for their processors. There is no doubt in my mind if they got off there collective asses they could crush AMD with the amount of money and bullying they are so famous for doing. Yet it hasn't happend. Could it possibly be both these companies need each other around. kinda like a yin and yang thing. P.S I think the rest of u trolling Fan boys should go back to tomshardware! Buy whats best for your money and your needs, who give a Flying *uck what the brand name is. Does having a Intel or AMD cpu in your rig make u sleep better at night? |

Good stuff from Intel, despite the 2 year old BIOS on the AMD system.
Whilst I will reserve judgement until I see decent third party reviews of both processors, I certainly think that Intel has made a decent enough processor that I would delay a purchase in the next 6 months to see how it performs. And that could be a hassle for AMD, but only geeks will hold off upgrades right now. Right now AMD are the only choice, so if your computer exploded tonight, I'd recommend an X2 still. But competition! At last! In all areas - performance, power consumption, and hopefully cost as well. AMD doesn't want to be selling X2 5200+s for $350, but it might not have a choice. |

I too am reserving judgment until I see a shipping product on both sides.
Side note: I'm happy that the intel fans finally get to blow off some steam. I mean, after 2 years , you guys have got to be ready to explode! ; ) |

It looks like my hypothesis is pretty close. The Conroe is just about as fast as an A64 in terms of real world performance per clock. The Conroe's real advantage is its 65nm process: cooler, clocks higher then a 90nm A64 X2.
It is going to be a little painful for AMD to wait for 65nm process. Meanwhile, it has to keep throwing more clocks and voltage to the 90nm X2 in order to get higher clockspeeds. |

Well conroe has just bought the Daddy back (pentium) into the lead....
But u know what we havent seen AM2 what real wonders it can make..... Guess the competition is just getting Hotter like Nvidia and ATI........ But still How annoying for AMD user it should conroe bit the hell our of over clocked upto 2.8 X2 and conroe was just running at 2.6 not even 3.6 or i could have though that extra MHZ have given the lead...... Going further the X2 AMD had Ram which had aggressve timing 1-1-2 and conroe had Ram timings 4-4-4 still conroe was 40% faster than AMD........ i am a AMD user specifications socket 754 3200+ 2.2 MHZ 3 GB Ram 2-2-4 and NVIDIA 6800 ultra...... but i am afraid even this specs are not going to make me last more than 2 years...... or even less :-(..... |

the crazy speculation flyinmg around here is kind of humorous, i think Jigar2speed5095 has about 20% of the total posts, including replying to himself.
i just can't get excited about something half a year away, there are too many things that can happen between now and then. how many times can fanbois be taken by marketing BS? i felt the same way about the hammer before it was released and every new GPU. IF there are no delays, IF this is the actual performance numbers and IF intel can produce those speeds in volume, then it will be a very impressive feat. Seeing as we won't know for sure until September the earliest, I say an intrigued meh. |

All I really want for my birthday (September 23rd) is a nice new shiny "Mac Pro" running at least two Conroe cores (one chip). That, and two 24" LCD's in portrait mode.

Oh, its abit flaming. But its only IDF so few times a year.
AMD chief sales and marketing officer Henri Richard has refuted Intel's boastful claim that its next-gen Conroe and Merom-based processors will have a 20% performance advantage over AMD's competing chips. Richard claims that Intel is simply trying to divert attention away from its current products, and points out that Intel's new chips still won't have an on-die memory controller. AMD and Intel's next round of dual-core desktop processors are set to launch in early June and July, respectively. http://techreport.com/onearticle.x/9436 Sorry, just couldn´t help it ;) AMDs PR sucks as much as Sun, nVidia, ATi and Apple I think. Never talk about competitors, if you don´t have anything smart to say. Specially so close to IDF. |

Those of you looking for new stuff from AMD, keep in mind they're juggling a socket and memory transition this year to stay price competitive on system costs (as DDR2 takes over the price curve from DDR -- make no mistake, DDR2 is initially about price not performance). And they do have something new on the (highly profitable) mobile side of things: dual core Turion with dual-channel DDR2. Remarkably, they apparently managed to do this while staying pin-, but not signal-, compatible with socket 754.
http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2710 So clearly the socket transition on the desktop/server is being driven by forward-looking requirements (more HT links and/or bandwidth for quad cores, perhaps?) Anyway, AMD has been trying to get some of the Centrino pie and this at least keeps them on the field with Yonah. |

I think you meant "Macro Fusion" as opposed to "Marco Fusion." Unless that's like... some new... Marco Polo-esque branch predictor....

Still no word on what amd is doing eh? I don't really understand it. Intel is taking the P-M tech (which is already pretty close to the A64.) and making it king of the hill very fast. WTH is Amd doing? We heard All kind of stuff for like 2 years before hammer came out. Other than a few bits here and there I see nothing new from Amd.

40% faster on a 2.67Ghz Conroe vs todays 950, at 65W instead of 95W.
A raw translations then says, a 2.67Ghz Conroe is like a 4.76Ghz P4D. Conroe XE would be 6Ghz then with the same scaling :o Suddenly I get some nasty performance rating number fobia. But the server side looks even better with its 3Ghz offerings. (Well besides the 3.33Ghz Conroe XE for the selected few that wanna spend 1000$ on a desktop CPU) http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30111 He reckons Woodcrest will give an 80 per cent improvement in performance and a 35 per cent reduction in power |

Intel if succesful in using laser technoloy...... than say bye bye to MHZ of any hardware or anything cause laser has 300000KM per second of speed........... :-)
