Games are becoming Multi-threaded and we have Dual-Core CPUs, shouldn't this be enough for game phiysics? Havok FX is developing hardware-accelerated physics through existing Shader Model 3.0 graphics cards from NVIDIA and ATI so why should we waste approx.~$300 on a PPU card that so far have a PCI interface if we already have hardware capable of performing very similar effects? On the other hand, if prices were to come down to approx.~$100-$200 folks may consider it especially if they change the interface, I mean come on people! try to make use of your new tech. with a better / newer interface e.g. PCI EXPRESS.

#2, I think someone should start a market for PCI-E x1 deco lights, I'm sure people would be overjoyed about being able to plug something in there.

Is there any possiblities in Physx cards that after some time they will come out with faster Physx card and then there will be competition like i have this so n so phsx card bla bla.... and so on...... I dont want it like that n i guess no one want it like that..... This is in refrence with the GPU i am talking about... ;-)

I still want to know what effect this will have on multiplayer games?
What will happen in an instance where one player has a PPU and another does not? Will they not be able to play in a game together as one would be in a physics enable world while the other would not?

Would only the player with the PPU 'see' the physics effects...meaning it would only be 'eye-candy'. If it was not just eye-candy and had actual effects on the gameplay how would this effect the non-PPU player?

I think it would end up being one of two situations:

1) PPU and non-PPU players could not play in the same game.
2) PPU physics effects would only be eye-candy and not effect the game (would be lame and defeat the point of having the physics effect).

I am assuming #1 would be what will happen. This will have a splitting effect on the user base of many games...sigh. The "have" and "have-nots" if you will. This is not a good thing.

It really needs to be integrated into GPU's or as an extension to motherboards. If it could become a standard on all motherboards then I'm sure the cost could come way down with higher volumes.

Either way it will be 'interesting' to see how this plays out. I for one will not be wasting my $$$ on this however.

Add PPU to the definition of l33tnez. Synergies welcome...

$119 PhysX card, sure... but $300 is a rip off.

In about 2 or 3 years it might be useful to have one, but by then it'll be cheaper. Or, if it's not cheaper in 2 to 3 years, it'll probably be 10 times faster than the current offering they have.

So there's no reason to buy right now from what I can see.

Don't you think these things should have a pricing model similar to sound cards?

I'm interested, but am not going to buy at those prices.

Watch me eat my words when(if) UT2k7 gives a reason to own one.

not 300 bucks impressed. they also should consider making it PCI-E as it is getting harder and harder to find a modern board with many pci slots.

The video looks awesome.

However I dread having to add third consideration into a gaming system. Already you have to balance CPU vs your GPU. All the additional physics obviously requires some extra GPU power to go with it(all those extra polys). So now there will be a three way relationship between CPU, GPU, and PPU. We're really going to have to start seeing some serious comparative reviews startup.

Hopefully games will now come out with full blown destructible terrain. Not the crap that we see in BF2.

OMFG this would kick ass and bring life to these WW2 shooters!

If it's worth it to ya -- go for it! If I want my fill of eye candy, I'll go scene.org, then come back when I'm ready to play games. (Of course, once there's a "Santa Cruz" of PPUs, I'm sure I'll pick it up.)

All this physics and eye candy is fun, but I'd rather have a game that isn't a prettier rehash of some older game.

You can't polish a turd.

The picture looks like a PCI card. If I were trying to sell an expesive, largely unused add-in card, I'd think I'd target those who could (and would want to) afford it, and make it PCIe.
