Dell fixes 2007WFP image quality problems

— 4:05 PM on May 26, 2006

PC World reports that Dell has posted a fix for the banding problems affecting some of its wide-screen 20.1" 2007WFP monitors. The banding is most visible in color gradients, and Dell's Corporate Director of Displays Marketing says it is due to a faulty color management chip in some of the displays. The 2007WFPs have three color modes—desktop, multimedia, and gaming—and the problem manifests itself when the monitor is in the desktop mode. Dell's solution is a firmware patch that allows users to disable video processing in the desktop mode, which will fix the problem on affected displays. Users can obtain the firmware patch by hitting the following post on the Dell forums and submitting a request to a Dell forum moderator. Alternatively, users not comfortable with the firmware update procedure can also get their displays replaced by Dell.
