Judge pulls the plug on Napster
The Drudge Report pointed me to this Washington Post link, which is reporting that a federal judge has issued an injunction forcing the shutdown of Napster on midnight Friday.
The RIAA obtained the injunction, and as part of the deal they'll have to pony up a $5 million bond "against any financial losses Napster suffers from being shut down pending trial." Napster's attorneys have said they will appeal; the article doesn't comment on when such an appeal could or would take place, so no word on whether the appeal would come before or after the injunction takes effect.
Once word of this story becomes more widespread, I wonder how much Napster use will jump between now and Friday night? Moreover, I wonder how much Gnutella use will jump after Friday night? :-) Cut off one head....
