New Core Duo chips to quietly make their debut

— 8:12 PM on June 27, 2006

Intel will quietly introduce two new additions to its Core Duo lineup this week, according to DailyTech. The fastest of the two, the 2.33 GHz Core Duo T2700, will be Intel's new flagship mobile offering until the expected August launch of the mobile Core 2 Duo. DailyTech says the T2700 is already available on some store shelves, and that it's expected to appear in high-end and desktop replacement notebooks "very soon."

The other new introduction will be the Core Duo U2500, an ultra low-voltage chip clocked at 1.2 GHz with 2 MB of cache and a 533 MHz front-side bus. Despite the U2500's two cores, Intel has managed to cut the chip's power envelope to just 9 W. The chip is also said to draw less than 1 W during "normal operation." Intel is expected to price the Core Duo U2500 at $289 in 1,000-unit quantities, while the top-of-the-line T2700 will go for a pricier $637.
