Poll: Will you upgrade to a Core 2 Duo processor?

— 11:01 PM on July 13, 2006

Our Core 2 Duo review makes it clear that Intel is the new king of not only processor performance, but also performance per watt. At $316, the Core 2 Duo E6600 looks to be a particularly nice deal, while the $999 Core 2 Extreme X6800 offers unrivaled performance for a desktop processor. Does the Core 2 Duo's performance have you readying your credit card in anticipation, would you rather see what riposte AMD has in store, or are you just not in the upgrading mood? Vote and let us know.

Will you upgrade to a Core 2 Duo processor in the next 6-12 months?

We looked at Internet connection speeds in last week's poll. As it turns out, exactly one third of voters have a connection fast enough to provide download speeds up to 5 Mbps. Meanwhile, portions of users with connection speeds up to 2 Mbps and up to 10 Mbps sit almost neck-and-neck, and about a quarter of voters have connections below 1 Mbps, including 3% with dial-up. On the upper end, 3% of you have connections between 10 and 45 Mbps, and an equal share enjoy connection speeds above 45 Mbps.
