Matrox releases multiple workspace utility

— 4:19 PM on July 18, 2006

After shipping its TripleHead2Go display module two months ago, Matrox is back with PowerSpace, a new virtual desktop management utility aimed at professional users with multiple displays. The ability to split up a single desktop into multiple workspaces is nothing new—Linux window managers have had the functionality for years, and similar software exists for Windows—but Matrox's PowerSpace brings a few extras that should keep power users happy. For one, the software can bind applications to certain workspaces and set them to start in their pre-defined positions upon login. PowerSpace also lets users import and export their workspaces for use across multiple systems, and it retains multi-monitor settings even after a remote desktop connection from a single-monitor system.

PowerSpace is available to download today from Matrox's website, pending a quick sign-up process. Matrox says the software is "compatible with all Matrox graphics cards" but doesn't specify whether it can be used with the TripleHead2Go or systems with third-party graphics cards.
