First 'K8L' demo to come in 2006, says AMD

Following Intel's announcement that its quad-core chips will emerge in the fourth quarter of this year, AMD has reiterated its own plans for the quad-core race. AMD says its upcoming quad-core processors based on a new microarchitecture—referred to as "K8L" by some—will be demonstrated before the year's end. However, AMD President and COO Dirk Meyer says the "first substantiation" of these new chips won't appear until mid-2007.
