ECS to acquire Uniwill, increase notebook presence

— 5:15 PM on August 1, 2006

ECS has signed an agreement to purchase Uniwill, a Taiwanese notebook original design manufacturer (ODM) that supplies notebooks to system integrators. ECS will acquire Uniwill via a share swap, exchanging two Uniwill shares for each ECS share, totalling 184,930,000 shares at $0.58 each, or $107,389,620. Once the acquisition is completed, an event expected to occur on December 1, ECS will double its notebook research and development staff from 200 to 400 employees. Additionally, ECS says it will become one of the world's top five notebook manufacturers, enjoying such customers as Fujitsu. ECS already made strides in the desktop arena last year by acquiring Tatung's desktop PC unit, placing it at the number-three spot in the worldwide desktop ODM market according to TaiwanHeadlines.
