GeForce 7950 GT performance previewed

Upon news of an unannounced GeForce 7950 GT graphics card from Nvidia, the guys at PC INpact have scurried to run some benchmarks (in French, translate here) on an overclocked GeForce 7900 GT with 512MB of memory in order to get an idea of the supposedly upcoming card's performance. The guinea pig in question is Palit's GeForce 7900 GT Sonic, which the PC INpact team adorned with a Zalman VF900-Cu heatsink and overclocked to match the GeForce 7950 GT's reported specs. Performance was compared to both a reference GeForce 7900 GT and one of ATI's Radeon X1900 XT graphics cards.

In the games tested by PC INpact, the simulated GeForce 7950 GT sits between the other two cards. On average, it's 21.1% faster than the GeForce 7900 GT and 9.79% slower than the Radeon X1900 XT. Testing was done at resolutions of 1920x1440 and 2048x1536, though, so the GeForce 7950 GT—if it exists—may end up faring differently at more reasonable settings.
