AMD aims for 40% server market share by 2009
With new Rev. F Opterons out and AMD-based Dell servers on the
way, an AMD executive has told Reuters he expects
AMD to snatch 40% of global server processor shipments by 2009.
In the second quarter of this year, AMD's global server market share sat
at 25.9%, up 3.8% from the previous
quarter. AMD appears to count on a 14.1% growth in market share
over the next three years or so, which would be no small feat.
However, we should point out that back in the second quarter of last
year, AMD's global server market share amounted to all of 11.2%. The chipmaker is
no stranger to substantial market share gains over short periods of
time. Thanks to The
Inquirer for the tip.
