EA exec thinks Wii will launch at $170
The latest Wii pricing rumor comes from Electronic Arts VP and COO David
Gardner, who believes Nintendo's upcoming console will
retail for a scant $170 in the United States. Gardner told
GamesIndustry.biz, "I've heard in Japan that the price is about $170,
but I don't know if the price has been set in Europe yet." $170 would be
a good $129 lower than Microsoft's cheapest Xbox 360 and a whopping $329
below the announced launch price tag of Sony's cheapest PlayStation 3.
The $170 price would even be $80 below the $250 price ceiling publicly stated by Nintendo back in May.
Whatever the Wii's price turns out to be, we may all find out soon
enough: recent rumors say Nintendo's baby could show up as early as next month. Sony, meanwhile,
is sticking to its November 17 U.S. launch date for the PlayStation 3, although as of last week, the console hadn't
yet entered production.
