Poll: Best CPU, chipset, and GPU combo?

— 4:18 PM on August 24, 2006

While word is circulating that ATI plans to stop making Intel chipsets soon, the market is currently overflowing with enthusiast-oriented core logic for both AMD and Intel processors. For those running multi-GPU systems, vendor lock-in means chipset choice is intimately tied to graphics card choice. For others, core logic selection is a matter of built-in features or overclocking potential. Considering the added choice of processors, what is your CPU, chipset, and GPU combination of choice? That's the subject of our latest poll, so feel free to go vote and let us know!

Our previous poll sought the best-looking PC game on the market, and Oblivion was the clear winner with 36% of 1749 votes. Half-Life 2 and its Episode One follow-up were a distant second at 19%, while F.E.A.R., Far Cry, and Quake 4 were third, fourth, and fifth with 10%, 8%, and 7% of the votes. The rest of our listed games—Prey, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2, and Doom 3—apparently won't be winning beauty pageants anytime soon; they all got less than 5% of the vote.
