Firefox 2.0 Beta 2 released into the wild
After being delayed two weeks ago, the Beta 2 release of Mozilla's Firefox web browser is now finally available for download. The beta doesn't include "Places," the unified bookmarks, history, and RSS feed repository originally planned for Firefox 2.0 and later canned. Yet the new beta brings a host of other additions. Some of the new features and improvements include built-in phishing protection, an updated user interface, better tabbed browsing, better RSS feed support, and a built-in spell checker. As a beta release, however, Firefox 2.0 Beta 2 does also have some lingering problems, and Mozilla recommends that this version be used for testing purposes only. If you feel like taking a peek anyway and use a previous version of Firefox, make sure to back up your profile directory somewhere safe first.
