Microsoft prepping Xbox 360, HD DVD bundle

Sony's PlayStation 3 may meet with stiff competition from Microsoft when it launches in North America on November 17. According to a report on GamesIndustry, Microsoft is cooking up a bundle that will include its "Premium" Xbox 360 console package, the separate HD DVD player that was announced earlier this year, and a "newly released triple-A third-party title" (can anyone say Gears of War?) This bundle will reportedly launch in early November at a price of €552-589 in Europe, likely translating to $552-589 in the United States.

If true, those prices could make the bundle roughly equivalent to the combined cost of Sony's cheaper $499 PlayStation 3 plus one new $59.99 game title. The two consoles will both have a 20GB hard drive, support for a blue-laser disc format, and wireless controllers. Thanks to Joystiq for the tip.
