Nvidia signs Chartered as supplier

— 1:12 PM on September 11, 2006

Singapore-based Chartered Semiconductor has had its fingers in a few pies lately. Having most recently become a secondary supplier of AMD processors, the chip foundry also signed an agreement to provide 65nm Xenos processors for Microsoft's Xbox 360 next year, and now HKEPC's sources say it has received an order for graphics chips from Nvidia. The order reportedly consists of only a small number of chips for Nvidia's newly-released GeForce 7100 GS budget graphics card. Most GPUs for the GeForce 7100 GS will continue to be produced by TSMC, but Nvidia allegedly intends to use Chartered as a bargaining chip against TSMC. HKEPC's sources say Nvidia might further collaborate with Chartered in the future if production goes smoothly, as well.
