Deal of the week: $240 Radeon X1900 XT 256MB

Both ATI and Nvidia have released new $199-299 graphics cards over the past few weeks that offer very appealing performance for their respective prices. ATI struck first last month with its Radeon X1900 XT 256MB, which easily beats Nvidia's GeForce 7900 GT for a recommended price of just $279. Nvidia has now followed suit with both the $199 GeForce 7900 GS and the $299 GeForce 7950 GT, but ATI's Radeon X1900 XT 256MB still has the upper hand over even the GeForce 7950 GT in many games.

Today, we've spotted Sapphire's version of the Radeon X1900 XT 256MB selling for just $239.99 at Newegg. At that price, the Radeon X1900 XT 256MB not only boasts better performance than competing offerings from Nvidia, it also has superior antialiasing and anisotropic filtering algorithms. The Radeon X1900 XT 256MB's only real downside is its 256MB of RAM versus the GeForce 7950 GT's 512MB, but this shortcoming doesn't seem to be a handicap in even demanding games like The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.
