Intel to integrate processors with graphics?

— 3:01 PM on September 21, 2006

General-purpose processors with built-in graphics cores were a hot topic after AMD announced its plans to acquire ATI this summer, and Intel has apparently not skipped a beat. According to an Intel job posting on CareerBuilder, the company is looking for a Senior Graphics Verification Engineer to join the Intel Mobility Group as part of a team working on an "[Intel graphics core] which will be integrated in Memory Controllers as well as the CPU." The engineer will be required to develop "pre-silicon validation methodology for ASICs [application-specific integrated circuits]," along with other verification and validation tasks.

This job posting is one of many Intel has put up in the recent past to recruit staff for graphics-related projects. Previous rumors suggested that Intel was working on its own high-end graphics processor, but going by that latest job posting, the company could also be prepping some processors with integrated graphics and memory controllers. Thanks to The Inquirer for the tip.
